Body black with a metallic sheen. Most of the body hairs reddish brown. Female has a pair of protrusions on the sides of clypeus; when viewed from above, the distance between them is narrower than that of the closely related Osmia cornifrons, and there is a short spine on the central anterior margin of the clypeus. This species overwinters as adult and is active from early spring, building nests with mud partitions, and stores pollen as food for larvae.
